Discover the world of music with your child. The Music Together program is an early-childhood music curriculum and has been around since 1987. The foundation of the program is the belief that musical ability is innate and all children can sign in tune, keep a beat and follow a rhythm. Parent participation is essential as this is what fosters in the child the confidence that they can dance and sing and make music too. Parents are the role models for their children and as we know they learn by example. If you show that you have fun with music then they will too.
I first took the music classes with my son when he was 2 years old. At first he didn’t know what was going on and he participated very little. For the first few weeks of the 10 week program I really didn’t think that he was getting much out of it. He seemed bored and I felt a ridiculous throwing scarves around to music while he just sat and stared out the window. It took me some time to notice that he was actually taking it all in and I started to notice a change at home first. All of a sudden he was repeating beats and tones that he heard. And banging on things to the beat of whatever music we were listening to. And by the end of our first program he was dancing away in the class and at home. He was copying the beats from the CD and doing the actions. It was so much fun. We continued doing the class for a couple years and then I took my daughter to the classes as well.
The 10 week program is different every time because they have 9 different song collections so it takes 3 years to rotate through them all. So you learn different songs each session and you get a CD to listen to at home. They are mixed-age classes so children get to watch and learn from kids both older and younger which is one of the best parts.
Sessions start in September, January and April at Mothering Touch. If you have never taken a Music Together class before and would like to try it out there is a free demo class happening on September 24 from 10:30 to 11:15. Please call us to register and for more information click here.
